Start believing in better! The Playstation 3 is the most powerful games console on the planet. The entry level 160GB system retails at £239.99 whilst the larger 320GB version retails at around £269.99.

A powerful multimedia system and a gaming machine rolled into one, the 160GB is the entry level system for the PS3. The storage should be more than enough for most people. |
An extra £30 will get you the 320GB. With double the storage you will be able to save more music, films and games on your system. |
The most popular accessory just now is the Playstation Move, a hands free wand which works in a similar way as the Nintendo Wii controller (only better). The move has undoubtedly improved the range of games which can be played on the PS3. |

The Playstation 3 arrived in the UK on 23 March 2007. Retailing at £420, the Playstation 3, or PS3 as it is commonly known, was not only a year or so behind the launch of the Xbox 360, it was also over £200 more expensive than the entry level 360.
However, the PS3 did give you a lot more bang for your buck. The original machine came with a 60GB hard drive and emulation support for most PS2 games (new systems don’t have this). Though without doubt the main reason for this price difference was the inbuilt Blu-Ray capabilities. At the time Blu-Ray players cost hundreds of pounds more than the PS3 system (so Sony were actually making a loss on every machine) and Sony marketed the machine emphasising it’s multimedia capabilities. Blu-Ray allowed the PS3 to store more than 5 times as much information as the DVD discs which the 360 used. Microsoft had released a HD DVD add on for the 360 a few months before the launch of the PS3 however it retailed at £129.99 and stored around half that of Blue-Ray discs.
No one purchases a games console for it’s CPU but thankfully, the PS3 has a host of fantastic games such as Gran Turismo 5, Metal Gear Solid 4 and the Drakes Fortune series of games.
Since it’s launch there have been some improvements in the main system. The wireless controllers can now vibrate (Dualshock) and the huge black system which was originally released has been replaced by a slimmer more modern looking one. As such, the current version is called the Playstation 3 Slim.
Two versions of the PS3 slim are available: 160GB and 320GB. The PS3 Slim 160GB retails for around £239.99 whilst the PS3 Slim 320GB will set you back around £269.99.
Both consoles are identical apart from the amount of storage so it really comes down to how much you think you’ll need. Bear in mind though that unlike the Xbox 360, which needs an official hard drive to upgrade, the PS3 uses a 2.5″ laptop therefore you can easily upgrade your hard drive at any time.
